Information

This was used on many small ships including destroyers, corvettes, minesweepers and sloops.
Lt. Peter Scott had followed the works of American naturalist Thayer, and subscribed to Thayer's ideas about blending in to nature. Peter Scott Blue, sometimes called Western Approaches Blue, was introduced when Scott was recruited to assist with camouflage. Western Approaches schemes were intended to counter the U-Boat thread on North Atlantic convoys. The colours were very pale and intended to blend in with an overcast horizon in low-light. Decks would be dark grey. N.b. most Flower Class Corvettes had black underwater hulls.

** Colour renders given above are for guidance only - differences in colour space models for physical paints versus illuminated pixels on screen and limitations of conversions between models means that what you see on your screen cannot be used for colour matching purposes. An accurate colour can be found sprayed on each tin lid and within the tin. **

Colourcoats are available in 14ml as standard. 125ml or larger quantities are available on request.

Solid pigments and flattening agent will tend to separate from the carrier solvent if sat still for long periods of time, so we strongly recommend thorough mixing before use.

Colourcoats can be sprayed with a suitable airbrush or brush painted. When brush painting multiple thinned coats are recommended with sable brushes.

The recommended thinner is Colourcoats Thinners specially formulated for superior drying times and reduced odour. If necessary Colourcoats can be thinned with  standard quality solvent thinners or cellulose thinners for rapid drying.
