A3 Printed Colour Profile - HMS Rodney 1942
A3 Printed Colour Profile - HMS Rodney 1942
Professionally printed A3 matte full-colour print showing camouflage scheme on HMS Rodney during 1942.
This suggested colour scheme has been developed by reference to numerous black & white photographs to determine the demarcations of the scheme and the relative tones and contrasts. In addition, once the number of paints present and the most likely tone of each was determined, these were compared to surviving colour cinefilm footage taken during Op Pedestal in the Mediterranean in September 1942 as well as contemporary artworks. Using this footage to study the hue of the colours observed, the authors were able to eliminate theoretical combinations of the authorised paints available to ships in the Royal Navy at this time.
The scheme presented is the conclusion of the study of both tonal contrast and hue from surviving black and white and colour images, using the colours and tones as they are now known to have been.

Colour profiles are sent rolled in tubes, not folded. Whilst the quality of the printing is good and the colours illustrative without being misleading, we caution that some difference in colour fidelity is expected as compared to the recommended Colourcoats paints.
