Do I need to sign up to an account to checkout?
We give our customers the options of accounts to help track prior orders and make wishlists. There is no requirement to sign up to an account however in order to place an order.
Do you take Mastercard/ Visa/ etc?
We accept all Visa, Mastercard and & Amex credit and debit card payments through our store. We also have the option of Paypal payments & Amazon payments. To use Paypal/Amazon payments please log in to your Paypal/Amazon account when prompted in order to process payment through those payment gateways. We do not have access to your log in details for these accounts.
Do you take payments over the phone/cheque/cash?
We operate as a web store only and do not take cards payment over the phone nor cheques or cash in the post. This is to ensure all your details are kept secure. Our web store is PCI compliant and fulfils all 6 categories of PCI standards to ensure your details are kept safe. For more information on this click here
When travelling at trade shows we can take card payment via Paypal here or by direct input to our web store and cash only. We do not accept cheques.
How does Paypal payments work?
Paypal payments will direct you away from our site to Paypals site to log in. Postage costs are not added at this point. Once you have logged in on the paypal site and click "pay now" you will be redirected to our site to chose postage method before finalising payment. No payment will be taken until you return to our site to continue the checkout process.

Can you post to me?
Colourcoats Paint/thinners - We are able to post to mainland UK (no islands or Northern Ireland) only at present. Due to enamel paints/thinners being classed as dangerous goods, posting requires us to adhere to certain regulations. At present we are able to post using Parcelforce at a flat rate of £6.50 for up to 4kg (which works out to around 150 tins). We offer a lower postage rate at £4.50 for 12 tins or more. We also offer free postage for paint orders over £50. We off these rates greatly reduced from the rate we are charged by operating a minimum order on paint and thinners. Please see below for more details.
We aim to post all orders within 3 working days. Please advise if you wish this to be sent same day. Parcelforce items are sent under their express48 service. However please allow up to 4 working days for your item to arrive before contacting us. We have found that their express48 service can take an extra day or two.
Minimum order - dangerous goods - Paint/thinners
Paint and thinners classify as flammable liquid and can only be sent via our specialised contract as they are dangerous goods. The cost of this is rather high per parcel so we have a minimum paint/thinners order of 6 tins/bottles to allow us to reduce the postage cost to our customers.
The minimum order is 6 tins of paint or bottles of thinners or a combination of both. 1 bottle of thinners counts as 1 tin. The paint can be a combination of any colour and tins within coloursets count as individual tins. If you require any help with this please contact us.
We can send out orders of less than 6 tins/bottles but they incur an extra postage charge. Please contact us if you wish to order less than the minimum.
All other products - WEM Photo etch brass, Infini Models & Pontos Models are all posted Royal Mail via various options available at checkout. All orders over £50 have free postage.
Colourcoats Paint - We are unable to send paint directly to retail customers outside of mainland UK. Enamel paint can be sent via road but not air so please do contact your nearest stockists as they may be able to help you. Follow this link for stockists in Europe & USA. We will soon have stockists in other areas of the world.
All other products - We can send WEM P.E, Infini Model & Pontos Models to elsewhere within the UK. If your country is not listed at checkout, please contact us for shipping information - we may have simple not had a customer in your country before and haven't added it to our list. We offer free international postage for orders over £150.
How long will it be until I receive my order?
We aim to ship all orders within 3 working days. All paint orders are shipped under Parcelforce48 stipulates that this 48 hours is from the time the parcel is dispatched until the end of business in 48 hours. For example this means parcels sent on a Thursday have until the end of Monday to arrive. However please allow up to 4 working days for your item to arrive before contacting us. We have found that their express48 service can often take an extra day or two.
You will receive an automated email with tracking details for these services. Please contact us if you have any queries. Please note that any parcels not delivered on the first attempt are usually taken to your nearest sorting office for collection. Any parcels not collected are returned to us at our cost. If you missed your parcel/did not collect it and want it sent out again, then you are liable for the additional postage cost.
All other products are sent via Royal Mail either 1st or 2nd Class, standard or signed/tracked as chosen during checkout. We will forward tracking if applicable and these should arrive within the usual time from 1-5 days from posting.
Why does it cost so much to post to me?
Enamel paint is classed as flammable liquids and therefore subject to certain regulations regarding shipping around the UK and abroad. We have had to undergo package testing and must adhere to specific regulations for packaging to be able to ship these within mainland UK with Parcelforce. For retail orders, we charge considerably less than the cost of packaging/posting and have implented a minimum order amount of 6 tins/bottles.
We are always looking for ways to keep postage costs down as we understand this is just a cost rather than value adding.
We are unable to post via the usual couriers as enamel paint/thinners is classed as a prohibited item and can results in consequences on Sovereign Hobbies.
Can you post to me in Europe/North America/South America/Far East Asia/Australasia?
Colourcoats Paint - At present we are only able to ship paint retail orders to mainland UK. We are working on a range of international stockists, these can be found on our stockists page.
We are able to post trade stockists order anywhere in the world. Shipping for enamel paint internationally incurs costs greater than what a retail customer would be willing to pay (in the hundreds of pounds). However we are always open to orders should you wish to pay the costs - please email us at email@example.com. Group buys between freinds or club members is one mechanism to ease this burden and we would be very happy to assist any groups interested in exploring this.
All other products - Yes, we can send via Royal Mail. If your country is not listed, please contact us to have it added and pricing updated.
How will my order arrive?
All paints are shipped in gripseal bags, surrounded by vermiculite (non-flammable absorbent cushioning) in a double walled postal box, taped securely to prevent spillages or leakages. Our packaging will ensure your paint arrives safely and undamaged. Should your order not arrive in good condition please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Photo etch brass is sent in rigid cardboard envelopes to prevent bending or damage to the product.
All kits are sent in double walled card boxes and protected with inner packaging to ensure they reach you in mint condition.
Returns & Refunds FAQs
Can I return my order for a refund?
Paint/thinners returns are costly and difficult due to the nature of posting dangerous goods so we will do everything in our power to ensure that you are happy with your order.
Our policy lasts 30 days. If 30 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.
If you are returning an applicable item (not paint/thinners) - once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund.
If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to the original method of payment, within a certain amount of days.
My refund hasn't arrive yet - what should I do?
If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account or contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted on your statement. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted.

Can I exchange my item I ordered?
We do not accept exchanges on paint/thinners due to the nature of shipping flammable liquids and the cost involved in returning items and re-sending replacements.

We are now offering a special order option for out of stock items. If an item is out of stock you will see a clickable button for "special order". Payment is required at time of ordering. Once added to cart, you can checkout, select postage method and make payment as per the usual procedure.
How long till I receive my order?
Special order delivery times will vary depending on country of origin of the item. All special orders placed with us are ordered to the supplier on the last Friday of each calendar month. The cut off for special order items is midnight on the last Thursday of each calendar month. If you place a special order on the last Friday - we cannot guarantee to include it in that month's orders and it may not be ordered until the following month. You will be updated as to when your special order will be placed if this is the case.
Items will be sent out the next working day once being delivered to us after clearing customs.
What can I special order?
We take special orders on all products we stock excluding Colourcoats Paint and Colourcoats Coloursets and Pontos Models (excluding limited products that show as available for special order)
How do I use Colourcoats?
Colourcoats paints are either a matt or satin finish (each paint is detailed on the listing). Satin finishes allows decals to often be applied directly to the colour without need for a glossy varnish to avoid backing film silvering, whilst avoiding the excessive drying times and difficulties in getting an even coat when working with gloss paints. This also means Colourcoats is very quick drying compared to gloss enamels for application of multiple coats/varnishes. Colourcoats is also highly opaque meaning that a single coat is often sufficient coverage.
It can be sprayed with a suitable airbrush or brush painted. When brush painting multiple thinned coats are recommended with sable brushes.
Colourcoats can be cleaned (or thinned if necessary) with either the standard quality solvent thinners - White Spirit in the UK/ Paint Thinners in the USA, or cellulose thinners/ lacquer thinners in the USA for rapid drying. As we cannot product test Colourcoats with every conceivable type of liquid an end user may decide to add, we cannot take responsibility for performance problems where 3rd party thinners (including other brands' enamel thinners) and hence strongly suggest experimentation on scrap plastic prior to committing to painting your carefully assembled and prepared model!
The recommended means to thin is Colourcoats Thinners. Designed and formulated specifically for use with Colourcoats, Colourcoats thinners offers a number of key benefits - significantly reduced odours during use compared to white spirits or cellulose thinners, significantly reduced drying times compared to white spirits and far less aggressive towards styrene plastics than cellulose thinners. Unused paint thinned with Colourcoats Thinners can be safely returned to the tin for long term storage.
Should I stir my paint before use?
YES! Solid pigments will tend to separate from the carrier solvent if sat still for long periods of time, so we strongly recommend thorough mixing before use. It is in the nature of enamel paint for separation to occur and we do not class this as a fault. Sealed tins that are many years old are still perform perfectly after some thorough mixing.
My paint isn't drying properly/going on patchy/etc - what should I do?
If you have any issues with Colourcoats paint please email us with details and we will do what we can to assist you to create a smooth and even finish. We have often found that the paint just required a bit more mixing due to the pigment settling in the tin. If any "blob" comes up with your stirring stick from the bottom, the paint needs to be mixed better. Pigments and pigment extenders are suspended, not dissolved, and will sink to the bottom over time.
Can I order larger size cans/custom paint order?
We are happy to supply any of our colours in larger sizes for personal or commercial use. We can supply in tins from 100 ml up to 2.5 litres. Please contact us for more information.
I'm not in the UK - Where can I buy Colourcoats?
We sell Colourcoats paint direct to UK Mainland Customers from our web store. If you are overseas we cannot post paint to you but we can send everything else. If you are overseas and looking for our high quality Colourcoats range please check out below for your nearest stockist.
