Information ACUS07 - WW2 USN Semi-Gloss Sea Blue ANA606 Used on the upper surfaces of wings and tail surfaces on tri-colour US Navy aircraft in mid 1943 - mid'44. Use with ANA607 Non-Specular Sea Blue (ACUS33), ANA608 Non-Specular Intermediate Blue (ACUS08) and ANA601 Insignia White (ACUS37). If painting national insignia on, please also see ACUS39 Insignia Blue ANA605

The upper surface of the fuselage was not the same colour - the upper surface of the fuselage was ANA607 Non-Specular Sea Blue ACUS33 which is not simply matt, but a different, darker shade. Please disregard any reference to Federal Standard matches - there are none. FS595 was not invented until after 1950 and the FS colours often stated as being equivalent to Army-Navy Aeronautical standard (ANA) US Navy sea blues (e.g. 15042, 25042, 35042) are not a match for WW2 colours, but would be appropriate for Korean war aircraft e.g. F9F Panther etc. If your WW2 model is an all-over blue scheme from late 1944 onwards, you need (ACUS34) ANA623 Glossy Sea Blue, which is a different colour again and, as before, not the same as FS15042 despite the latter claiming to represent ANA623.

All paint is on a rolling re-stock. We receive vast amounts of emails requesting exact dates for when items are back in stock however we are unable to give you specific time frames for this due to the nature of trade orders and unpredictable retail sales. As such, we do not respond to email requesting information about when a specific paint in back in stock. We recommend that you complete the notifier for when the levels are updated. Colourcoats Paint

We advised that you ensure to purchase enough paint to complete the model to maintain accuracy. Whilst we do everything in our power to ensure consistency between batches using real people and not machine, we are also carrying out constant improvement of our range and colour accuracy. As such we do make changes to colours when new information shows a discrepancy in our range. This allows us to carry the most accurate and authentic paint range. Therefore, we advise that you ensure to order enough paint to complete the model, especially when building larger scale kits.

Application Guide

Colourcoats paints are either a matt or satin finish (each paint is detailed on the listing). Satin finishes allow decals to often be applied directly to the colour without need for a gloss varnish to avoid backing film silvering, whilst avoiding the excessive drying times and difficulties in getting an even coat when working with gloss paints. This also means Colourcoats is very quick drying for application of multiple coats/varnishes compared to gloss enamels. Colourcoats is also highly opaque meaning that a single coat is often sufficient coverage. It can be sprayed with a suitable airbrush or brush painted. When brush painting multiple thinned coats are recommended with sable brushes.

If necessary Colourcoats can be thinned with either the standard quality solvent thinners - White Spirit in the UK/ Paint Thinners in the USA, or cellulose thinners/ lacquer thinners in the USA for rapid drying. The recommended thinner however is Colourcoats Thinners, a specially formulated enamel thinner which combines the drying times of cellulose, far less odour than either type of general purpose thinner, very good paint adhesion without softening plastic and is fully compatible with Colourcoats paint long term - meaning you can return unused thinned paint to the tin for long term storage. Sovereign Hobbies Ltd takes no responsibility for performance or storage issues where thinners other than Colourcoats Thinners are used, because obviously we have no control over what the end user chooses to add, and we cannot product test with every random liquid someone may add to Colourcoats paint.

Solid pigments will tend to separate from the carrier solvent if sat still for long periods of time, so we strongly recommend thorough mixing before use.
